Forget superheroes. All we’ve ever wanted to be growing up was Tony Bennett. Now that the smooth talking, sweet singing icon is coming to the Venetian Theatre on August 12, 14 and 15, 2020, this seems like a good time to try and meet our idol in the flesh (provided his overprotective bodyguards don’t get in the way). How many people do you know of that had their first No. 1 hit in 1951 and are still relevant to this day? We’re going to go ahead and guess, not too many. Well, add Tony Bennett to the club, because that’s when he released “Because of You.” Since then, the man has only recorded masterpieces like “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” and “Rags to Riches.” Heard of ‘em? If not, maybe you’ll be familiar with his 19 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards and the more than 50 million records he’s sold. Oh, and he was named an NEA Jazz Master and a Kennedy Center Honoree. Step your knowledge game up, folks. You’re in the presence of greatness. Utility belts, capes and masks are for phonies.
