The Songstress, Anita Baker, is back on the road after a long hiatus, performing her classic hits for her loyal fans. She regained the rights to her masters and is celebrating her 40th anniversary in the music industry since her debut album in 1983. Baker grew up in Detroit, MI, after being born in Toledo, OH. She became one of the most beloved singers of soulful ballads in the 1980s, during the quiet storm era. She started as a member of the funk band Chapter 8 in the late 1970s, and then launched her solo career with The Songstress in 1983. Her second album, Rapture, released in 1986, made her a star and earned her a GRAMMY for the single “Sweet Love.” Baker has won eight GRAMMY Awards and has four Platinum albums and two Gold albums. Baker has a contralto voice that spans at least three octaves.
